2008 Fall Bridal Fair

This past Sunday was Central Coast Bride's Fall Fair and marked our 1 year anniversary!

Jonnell and I love participating at the bridal fairs- our services are not one dimensional, and it is hard to display our coordinating skills, so instead we use it as an opportunity to display our creativity. We collaborated with Lawren from Manzanita on our Modern Day Jane Austen Novel theme, and as always, we loved the arrangements she came up with.



Our booth was built around our usual bamboo arbor, wrapped in swags of grey dupioni silk with handsewn fabric roses. Instead of using rose petals we chose to create a garden wedding look and our wonderful husbands layed sod for us (thank you!). We rented silver chivari chairs, dusty rose linens and our beautiful backdrop from Unlimited Events. Lawren loved the romantic look and used hydrangea, orchids, roses and dahlias to create beautiful floral "favors," centerpeices, sprays and the bridal bouquet.



We were even able to display our Best Booth trophy from the Spring Fair!

As usual, we were very busy passing out information and cannot wait to hear from potential clients!

October 4, 2008 Niki + Barrett

That's right, I was the Bride this time!


I married my highschool sweetheart of almost 11 years, Barrett, earlier his month! After almost a year of planning, I was ready to just enjoy my day. Jonnell and her assistant (her awesome mom, Magda) worked very hard and made sure that I did just that.


The wedding was held at the new Fleur de Lis Estate in Atascadero, run by Vicki Stewart. The property includes a Victorian home, barn, reception hall, gazebo and garden area and is adorable. I had originally planned to have the reception outdoors in front of the barn with the bar and dance floor inside, but the last minute rain scare forced me to rent a tent. Of course the weather cleared up and was amazing- but hey, no one got sunburnt! And I love the look of a tent wedding.


I went with a Mary Engelbreit Cocktail Party theme; black and red satin stripe linens from Unlimited Events, custom red/black/white print napkins, black/white polka dot cupcakes, and gorgeous floral arrangements including sunflowers and red roses, gerber daisies, dahlias and more! Oh, it was my dream wedding, spent dancing the night away with friends and family to Louie Ortega and a live band and then getting down to DJ Bob Stock's mix. What a night!



Thank you again Jonnell, you worked so hard to make my big day perfect.

Applause! September 20 Wedding

Nicole and Dan had a very beautiful wedding this past weekend. They met while at Cal Poly, and have since relocated to the Bay area. Their tear-filled Catholic ceremony at the Mission was followed by a dance party reception at Spanish Oaks in Santa Margarita. Nicole chose bright royal blue and silver, with simple and sweet wild flower arrangements to compliment the venue.

We hope that you have a long and happy life together as husband and wife! Congratulations!

Tami + Mat, September 13, 2008

This past weekend was Mat and Tami's wedding at the lovely Eagle Castle Winery off of Highway 46 West. Mat and Tami are just the nicest couple ever, hailing all the way from the midwest for their big day.


The original plan was to have their ceremony on the rooftop Sunrise terrace, and their reception on the Sunset terrace. However, after the entire reception was set up Mother Nature had other plans for us! It was so windy that 30 minutes before ceremony start time we had to break down the ENTIRE reception, move everything (tables, chairs, you name it!) downstairs to the ballroom, and re-set all of the tables! Jonnell and I felt like we were on some wedding reality show! Thankfully, the caterers were there to help us and the rooftop ceremony started on time as planned.

This was another wedding that was planned mostly via email. And even though Tami is a former wedding coordinator, it was Mat who was our primary contact and planner! You did an excellent job spoiling your new wife, Mat! We wish you guys the best!

Melanie + Gavin, September 6, 2008

This past weekend was Melanie and Gavin's wedding! They are both Cal Poly alums who live on the east coast, so Jonnell and I didn't meet either of them (in person) until just days before the rehearsal.

We enjoyed working with Laurel from Adornments to bring Melanie's distinct vision to life. This proves that you can plan 99% of a wedding via email! We also finally had a chance to work with Cameron Ingalls! He was nice enough to let us use his images on our promotional materials when we were just starting out, without knowing who we were or if we could even coordinate a wedding. Thank you Cameron for having faith in us!

Their ceremony was held on the bluffs at South Palisades Park in Pismo Beach and their reception was just a short drive inland to Holland Ranch. Holland Ranch is an AWESOME venue that both Jonnell and I have fallen in love with. We actually just booked it for our MBHS 10 year high school reunion next year! But back to Melanie and Gavin...their wedding was one big party! Gavin's cousin even brought his vintage A&W rootbeer float truck- the coolest thing we've ever seen! Everyone danced the night away to San Luis Jazz Band and the groom's ipod mix...with glow sticks to boot!

10 Things to Never Do at a Wedding

Taken from "Foxy Festivities" by Elycia Rubin & Rita Mauceri

The day two people exchange vows may not be your special day, but it's someone's special day, so be on your best behavior -- all the way from the I -do's to the obligatory Gloria Gaynor dance marathon...

Don't Be Fashionably Late As the song says, get to the church on time! Allow enough time to get to there 15 minutes early or more no matter what weather, traffic, or other acts of divine intervention pop up. Print out directions to both the ceremony and the reception (if it's at a different location). Many a wedding has been hampered by guests who got lost and showed up an hour late.

Don't Produce Sound Effects While at a wedding and reception, turn off your Blackberries and cell phones, put them on vibrate, or better yet, don't even take them!

Don't Talk Trash It may sound obvious, but it happens all the time. No matter how big or how loud a wedding is, things get overheard. So, be on your best and most polite behavior. No gossip about any of the other guests. No complaining out loud about anything -- whether it's the food or the long line at the ladies' room. And no comparisons to other weddings! As far as the bride and groom are concerned, this is a perfect day, and so it should be!

Don't Come Bearing Gifts Whether you're planning on gifting the happy couple a Cuisinart or cold hard cash, do them a huge favor and don't bring it on the wedding day. If you do, they have to keep track of it and haul it home at the end of the night. Send the gift ahead of time, or after the actual ceremony -- at a time when they can really relax and enjoy it.
**Note from Events Redefined-- While sending the gift ahead of time is convenient, it is definitely okay to bring the gift to the reception. Especially if they have a coordinator, because most likely we're the ones hauling the gifts out to the car and keeping track of loose cards. **

Don't Dress Down Whatever you choose to wear, make the effort to look your best for the bride and groom. They'll appreciate that you got dolled or duded up for the occasion. If the invitation doesn't specify dress code, put in a friendly email or call to the bride, groom, their parents, or attendants to get more info. Black Tie means you've got to dust off that long silk dress or rent a tux. If it's an outdoor affair, there may be more leeway, but get details on the location, so you can come prepared (because it's isn't fun to be traipsing around in the sand in your stilettos!).

Don't Bring Mr. or Ms. Random If you're single, choose your date carefully. If it's someone you've only been out with once, it may not be the best idea (could be awkward for you, your date, and the newlyweds). Same if it's someone you recently "sort of" broke up with. Weddings are intimate affairs and bringing in a stranger should be done with thought. Let the bride or groom know if you decide to come alone so they can seat you with other fun "ones!" And as much as you may love your kiddos, don't take them if children aren't invited.

Don't Steal the Show Wedding ceremonies take all forms -- from religious to poetic, musical, or humorous. Whatever the vibe, let the bride and groom set the tone and follow their lead. If you're normally a loud, life-of-the-party type, bring it down a notch and let the wedding couple stand out. If you're a weeper, bring tissues and sit where you can sob without disturbing the I Do's. If the ceremony includes religious rituals, find out what you should do (or not do) ahead of time.

Don't Pig Out If food is serve-yourself, avoid the buffet line stampede and wait until the crowd dies down. Also, avoid going back for thirds. Take a break and save room for cake! Seconds might be okay, once you've seen that everyone has eaten. If the food is served sit-down, eat what is served without requesting substitutions or omissions, unless you have a food allergy. Otherwise, pick delicately or chow down, but don't gripe that you "don't like fish." Worse comes to worst, you can hit Burger King on the way home!

Don't Drag Out Skeletons If the bride blushes, it should be from pride, joy, or sheer love. Not because someone just stood up and told a humiliating story about the loser she dated in high school! Ingratiate yourself to the lady and her groom by avoiding any potentially embarrassing or juvenile behavior -- no bawdy jokes, no tales about their dating habits or exploits, no overdrinking, and no overly sexy dancing. Have fun, but don't have it at anyone else's expense.

Don't Stockpile Party Favors At the end of the night, as you're saying your thank-yous and farewells, avoid the urge to hog all the super-cool (or yummy) party favors! You don't need to take some for people who weren't able to attend. You don't need extras. Take one for yourself, unless someone in the wedding party urges you to do otherwise.

Niki's Bachelorette Party

Jonnell helped me celebrate one of my last days as a bachelorette! A group of my girlfriends rented a trolley and we went wine tasting in Paso Robles. We had a blast! Above is a picture of us enjoying Bianchi, which is a place we would love to coordinate an intimate wedding at- gorgeous.

Selena + Manuel, August 16, 2008

Selena and Manuel were married in the serene setting at See Canyon Fruit Ranch, followed by a rockin' reception in Madonna Inn's Venetian Room. Rosie, our Aug. 2 bride, was one of Selena's bridesmaids and she referred the couple to us. (Thank you Rosie!) Selena and Manuel had a wonderful sand ceremony, honoring Manuel's late father and including both mothers and his 14 year old daughter-- who lovingly/jokingly called Selena "Mommy #2" immediately following the ceremony.

Non-Stop Sound provided the music for one of the best dance party receptions we've ever seen! It took all we had in us to not join in on the fun. Alexis at the Madonna Inn was a pleasure to work with, and even took care of some of the dirty details for us! :)

Congrats you two! We hope your marriage is filled with love!

Rosie + Estevan, August 2, 2008

This past weekend's wedding was at a private residence in Nipomo and celebrated the love that Rosie and Estevan have for eachother. They are the *cutest* couple, and Rosie wore one of the most amazing wedding dresses I've ever seen. Ricardo from Elegant Details created some of the most beautiful, simple topiary centerpieces and was a pleasure to work with.

This group knew how to party! Jonnell and I were shocked when the DJ announced the Money Dance and EVERY.SINGLE.GUEST got up, cash in hand, and waited patiently to dance with the couple. The party lasted until the wee hours as everyone enjoyed the party under the stars!

Dena and Wes got married at Spanish Oaks Ranch in Santa Margarita this past weekend. The ceremony was under the impressive oak tree out back and included a family sand ceremony with Dena's son. The wind really picked up right before the ceremony started, but fortunately died down enough for the Bride to make it down the aisle to her beaming Groom.


Anacapa BBQ provided a very tasty Mexican feast and the crowd grooved to the sounds of DJ Gy Rider until closing time.

This past weekend we coordinated Amanda and Dave's wedding at Meridian Vineyards in Paso Robles. Jonnell and I both got teary eyed a few times while we watched "our bride" make her way down the aisle. Dave proposed to Amanda the night before they moved to California from Indiana, so Amanda didn't have any local friends or family to help with the planning...we stepped in and held their hands through the entire process. It was a joy to see all of our hard work pay off!

Lawren from Manzanita Designs did an awesome job with the flowers, and Daniel and Laura from Daniel Wilson Photography were a pleasure to work with. Amanda and Dave even surprised their guests with one of the most *perfect* first dances I've ever seen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9Qcn3k4z_0). Chris Bailey from Kramer Entertainment mixed it up and had everyone on the dance floor celebrating the happy couple!

Jaimie + Todd, May 24, 2008

We had the pleasure of coordinating Jaimie and Todd's wedding at Santa Margarita Ranch, an amazing venue with a rich history, this past Saturday. Both Jonnell and I went to high school with Jaimie and I have many fond memories with her...volleyball, camping, talking about boys...

Fortunately for us, the weather was much cooler than last week. Unfortunately for the bride, it was pretty chilly and windy. Jaimie took it in stride though, and quickly exchanged her sandals for Uggs after the ceremony- a true Central Coast girl.

Jessica + Miro, May 17, 2008

Well, we survived our first wedding! Even in 104+ degree heat. Jonnell and I sure had our work cut out for us and were busy the entire 10 hours we worked the event.


Jessica and Miro were married at the beautiful Sue Casa at Oakbrook, a Spanish villa styled vacation rental in Templeton. Jessica picked the perfect colors; champagne with hints of deep red, to compliment the home and surrounding area. Nobody let the heat get to them; everyone enjoyed their wonderful meal by Chef Nicola from Mama's Meatball (yum!) and the great dance party under the stars. The best part- the newlyweds recessed down the aisle to the Star Wars Imperial March (something tells me Miro had a say in that one)!

Even after baking in the Templeton heat all day and moving tons of tables and chairs we know that THIS is what we were born to do.

Wedding season is upon us!

We are about to embark on our first wedding season together! Helping plan a wedding is an awesome experience, everything from linens and flowers to budgets and timelines- we love it!

We opened our business in the fall of 2007 with a goal of five weddings our first year. Well, we just booked our thirteenth client! That's right...thirteen amazing weddings in this county that we get to be a part of. We can't wait to see all of our gorgeous brides walk down the aisle on their special day. It is such an accomplishment to start with a blank canvas and end with a magical wedding day filled with little details, great food and fun, and happy clients.

Thank you to all of the local wedding vendors who have already recommended our services and have welcomed us into the Central Coast wedding world; we look forward to working with you in the future. A special thank you to our family and friends, we've seen a lot less of you now-a-days. Without your support our business venture wouldn't be possible. We feel so blessed!

2008 Spring Bridal Fair- Best Booth Award!

On Sunday, April 6 we shared a booth with Lawren Ussery of Manzanita Designs at the Central Coast Bride Spectacular Spring Bridal Fair. Lawren did our floral design at our Fall booth and was able to join us and represent her business. We had a great time together, a huge turnout, received excellent reviews, and won "Best Decorated Booth!" The three of us were so excited when the winners were announced, we couldn't believe we'd won on only our second appearance!

We went with a Modern Pottery Barn Garden Party theme, all based on a great linen we found at Taylor Rental. Obviously, we're so happy we decided to go with our guts and celebrate Spring! We hope you like it to!
